How long have you been with the Flood Control District?
I’ve been with the Flood Control District for 6 years. I’ve been with Harris County for 28 years.

How did you get your start at the Flood Control District?
I was looking for another alternative to serve the constituents of Harris County.
​
What is your favorite thing about working at the Flood Control District?
Working with the variety of internal departments to bring any given project to completion.
​
What has been your favorite project so far?
My favorite is currently the Lauder Stormwater Detention - Phase 1 Project.

What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?
Treat all coworkers with respect and never burn any bridges.
​
What’s the best thing that’s happened to you so far recently?
Watching my daughter cheer her first varsity football game as a cancer survivor!
​
What is something about you that people would be surprised to know?
I’ve been a Board Member of the Harris County Federal Credit Union for 6 years.
​
What was your first job?
My first job was being a File Clerk in the Harris County Auditor's Office, back in 1993.

Project Update
Construction continues on a stormwater detention basin that will store approximately 136,857,420 gallons of stormwater and mitigate impacts of future City of Houston drainage projects in the Sims Bayou watershed. To learn more, visit www.hcfcd.org/C10.
Construction Update
Preliminary excavation continues at the Genoa Red Bluff Stormwater Detention Basin, located near West Fairmont Parkway and Genoa Red Bluff Road. While the overall project is in the preliminary engineering stage, Phase 1 excavation will get a head-start on construction. For more information, visit hcfcd.org/C07

Hydrologic Operations Division attends NHWC Workshop
The Hydrologic Operations Department attended the 13th Annual National Hydrologic Warning Council Texas Workshop, from November 2-3, 2022 in San Marcos, TX. The workshop focused on developing skills and experience related to installing, repairing, and maintaining flood warning systems.
Flood Control District Staff speak at EWRI Conference
The Environmental and Water Resources Institute (EWRI) - Houston Chapter recently had their 2nd Annual Half-Day Conference in Downtown Houston. EWRI Houston holds regular conferences that aim to gather industry professional to share knowledge, strategies and to promote the sustainability and resiliency of the Houston region’s environmental and water resources.
Among those speaking during the event were several Flood Control Districts employees including Ryan Slattery, Scott Elmer, Ataul Hannan and Jonathan Holley.
